As a core or to put back on the engine ?
-
My former CAT mechanic was rebuilding a E engine, he always measured (mic) the spacer plate before install. When the local Pete dealer parts guy showed up, he “Mic” the plate and it was off. Wasn’t flat straight across. And it was Wrapped in genuine cat paper. Go figure.
PSM379 and mile marker 27 Thank this. -
Good, to reuse. How to measure, where to measure and tolerances.
-
If new aftermarket ones, are sold, “out of spec”, that’s worth knowing, as well.
Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
Pitting, thickness out of spec, warpage, damage are grounds for replacement IMO.
As for aftermarket spacer plates I would not waste a cent on a Yellowmark spacer plate. I bought one for my A a few years ago and right out of the box it measured both above and below the acceptable spec range for thickness. Genuine CAT was fine.cke and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
Use new every time and always measure before install. A lesson I’ve learned the hard way.
the original spacer plates were aluminum. I still have a couple of them laying around. -
Point me in the right direction, for a new one.

It’s not that easy. You need to measure your protrusion first. The stock one is .338 part number 6I-2981
the thinner one is .335 and part number 6I-4303 which isn’t what I’ve got in my mind but won’t come to me. I hate getting old
