For all you guys that are way smarter about how these mechanical pumps work than I, could worn governor fly weights hang up allowing less than full fuel, and then free up allowing normal fuel?

Okay after running the truck more I've been able to notice problems have lessened. With the new vents and lines fuel level isnt an issue now. Can get full power at 3/8 full tank now usually don't run below that. Also getting full power isn't a problem usually going threw the gears 3 or 4 times and running it up to 1900-2000 before I shift and I can get full power. But it's much more easy to deal with. One thing I have noticed now though is that when I have full power I really pull my full down like 14-15 psi at full throttle. Might just be filters coming up on maintenance this weekend but I just wanted to make sure I'm not going to hurt the pump up if it's running that low

I don't think you will do damage to the transfer pump, but that fuel pressure is way low. Mine gets down to 28psi or so on a hard pull, and some think that that is too low. I can't remember - have you changed the transfer pump yet? If not, that may be the next step, and not terribly expensive.

Yeah I've changed the transfer pump. Just started pulling really low like that it was like your 28-26psi was lowest I had seen. I'm thinking it might just be the filter because it's just been getting lower over the past week so it's not like it happened over night.

Well, filters are definitely the least expensive problem to eliminate.

It feels like everyone, including myself is just poking and hoping. Low fuel psi is def filters, easy fix. But your saying everything runs great until you get below a certain fuel level? Turbo running above 25psi or more like 15psi? The intermittent issue is making it difficult to narrow down. But on the bright side at least your making money with the trk while you diagnose.

No the vent/fuel line got rid of the level issue can make full power down til 3/8 full(usually dont run the tanks lower than that). With low fuel psi still making full power so I just think it's filters like you said. Turbo will run above 28-30psi at full power low powers is 10-14 but with all the changes vents, return line, and new fuel suction line it doesn't take long to transition from half to full power like couple of loaded miles and I'll have full power not like it used to be where it would come and go as it pleases. Now once I have a load couple miles and a few full throttle pulls and it slowly builds up boost til it opens up. What I mean by this is say i hit a stop light. Go through the gears might only make 13psi of boost. Go through the gears a second time I make 16. 3rd time I'll make 20 psi of boost l. 4th time is full boost at 28psi. That's an example of what I mean by building up. Some times it might take a little longer but doing all this has definitely helped the problem where I can run the truck without pulling my hair out. Also by fixing the return line it resolved a hard warm start issue I was having. So now it starts right up hot or cold.

Unrelated question but with your 359 does your speedo ever go backwards when accelerating. Sounds kinda funny but say I'm doing 55 and floor it the speedo might go backwards to 40-45 then when I let up it goes back to whatever speed I accelerated to so 55-60. Not a big deal just more curiosity of that's going on. Also not a mechanical speedo has wires coming out of the back and has a sensor in the tail housing. Thanks largecar[

Lol no mine does not do that, but that's all good it adds character. I don't have the mechanical speedo anymore either. The electrical one seems to work better.
