What is your engine S/N. Might be able to tell you what it originally had.

Yeah I recorded all that went in and come out . Cat had an Service letter with updated parts and that’s what I went back with , a change in liners , pistons , rods , oil pump and cooling nozzles . My worry is if they changed the head gasket kit or head to go with the upgraded lower in , but haven’t found any literature on the top end

Really there are only 2 heads for the 3406 mechanicals. The square port exhaust which is the older style and round port for the newer. 3ZJ should have the square. There are several different spring options for different hp settings etc, but the base heads are the same. I would definitely want to know which hole I was looking for before tearing it back down. A bottle test wouldn't hurt that might lead you to a cracked liner flange. Maybe you got sorta lucky and the head of a head bolt popped off.

What about the spacer plate did you reuse it?

Oh it’s the square port head , and no need for a bottle test because the engine is basically locked up because of coolant on top of the piston , so yeah imma tear back down to see what and wear the issue is . Yes I did reuse spacer plate .

Check the plate make sure it's true. Naturally check the head as well.

What if anything did you put on the thin metal gasket between the block and head?

Well the good thing bout it being hydrolocked is the problem should show it's self
