Back in the mid 80's my neighbor had a CAT rated at 450 if I am not mistaken. It ran and ran ran and pulled like a locomotive. Any comments on that one? One other note. He did turn the fuel to it but it was still long lived and dependable.

450 and mid 80s.
Probley a 3408 cat. They were great engines and ran forever even with no screws in the pump.
Unfortunately no one can afford to run them this day and age as fuel economy was not there strong point. Parts are gold for those motors as well.Oxbow Thanks this. -
There was a 460 cat. 3406 can't remember if it was c or e model. Pretty sure it was a c model.wore out Thanks this.

Mid 80s . The C model was not even out yet.
The only factory 450 hp rated cat was a 3408. Quite popular early 80s too.
3406 was 400hp max till about 86 or 87 when the 425 7fb came out -
460 hp 3406 was the peek. Came out in 94
Just before the E was introduced -
I would bet a stack of 100's on 450 or 460 B CAT in 1985 or1986. I'll call him.
-
There was no factory rated 450 or 460 b model cat ever so just send the cash.
425hp b model cat was all there was back in mid 80s
Only other thing is maybe your just rambling off hp numbers because he had them turned up but then really who knows what the hp was.
If we are talking factory ratings as most people do then no such thing bud. -
-
I sure there was a 460 factory rated. I remember a boy having one. Dont remember what year though.
