That's because there isn't much to follow up with, it is an excellent combo.Gambino1994 Thanks this.

I am getting ready to rebuild a 4mg and have been told to go with stock parts all the way. It is out of the frame now. The crank and cam are good. The advance and governor show just moderate wear. I don't have an unlimited budget, but this will probably be the only time in my life that I get to do this and I want to do it right.
We will be using this tractor to pull our lowboy. It is the original engine in a 1989 378 Pete with an RTOF 15618 and dp461p 2 speed rears (46k 4:10/5:69 I think). We will be swapping the trans for an 18718B to get the .73 overdrive. We run between 5000 and 10000 ft. elevation. It has jakes and a retarder, and I have been running a BW 177148. I don't need a hotrod, but would sure like get around 500 hp, but only if it will live in our application, which is hauling up to about 140,000 lbs. in the mountains.
I would really like opinions from @wore out, @SmokinCAT, @swaan , or others that have experience with the mechanicals. Our local Cat shop (which is good and has experience with b models) will hot tank the block and start from scratch. I do not have the skills, knowledge, or facility to do all of the work myself.
I apologize to the OP for highjacking the thread, but thought that this was relevant to the subject.
Thanks.SAR Thanks this. -
If a guy had a 3zj set at stock 425 fuel settings and stock 11 degree timing, what kind of power increase would he see with them steel top Pistons and matching nozzles? Would you have to change timing at all? Those matching nozzles flow in the range of a 8785 correct? I just get excited hearing of a motor being built with them updated cyl packs and no follow up lol.Oxbow Thanks this.

Those nozzles are quite a bit above a 8785, I wouldn't run the timing set stock with those but that is me, adjustments on timing would be minimal, maybe bumping to 14*

Rebuild it as stock 425hp 4MG, those factory parts will get you to 500 without much fuss.

Thanks gentlemen, it is nice to have confirmation!

The first 3zj's were called B's but had 7E5888 (C) pump, 6point head bolts, wide journal crank, etc, etc, the the 5kj showed first of C parts with the 5888 pump, dual scroll B&P's, 8 bolt advance but 18° cam, 3423 nozzles, narrow crank, etc. 5kj was a one year only 1991 motor.

That's why I said as a rule. My motor is a 5YG not splitting hairs lmao.
Mine is the only one I have ever seen, 5YG I mean was you meaning it was a one year deal? Thanks for good info btwOxbow Thanks this.
