My ol 3406B shows you black smoke any time you want to see it for sure. Still as dependable an engine on the road IMO. Only thing sucks to be me right now is I'm headed into weather on a new paint and polish job on my 359. So I'm gonna den here and go in the daylight.

had a 1985 GMC brigadier 4 car carrier custom from Chevron. 3208 cat, 5 speed 2 speed rear. last week i grossed 49k on a straight truck!!! i know it was not safe and had those 11 22.5s squatting but it haulled that 28k pound forklift where it was going. she pulled slow about 45mph but it was strong, only split a few times. Cat is by far the strongest medium duty engine ive ever seen and owned. besides the 6mpg lol. CAM01375.jpg

I don't blame you. Its supposed to get worse the rest of the night from what I've seen. I'll be put back together tomorrow and hopefully rolling again Thursday. BTW we are horrible people and we don't think the rules apply to us according to some guy from NC...he read the most miles thread. He's a "jealous hater" :biggrin_25522: you be safe headed out that way partner. Keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down.

42 I got too much love in this ol girl to tear it up. Its been a long 18 years coming I've only owned this one 18 months but wanted one like it from day one. I may need help with my chains, not put a set on in years lol.

Heck I love your truck and don't even drive it lol. She's a good looking ride no sense in risking tearing it up. You'd better find a guy that runs out there to give you pointers on the chains. I'm as useless at tits on a boar. I ain't never thrown iron, I'm the nut that's out there barefoot while everybody else has chains on lol.

We had an 86 Ford f 700 in our fleet when I worked for pepsi back in 2000-2001 that had a Cat 3208 and a 5 and 2. One of my favorite trucks to take on my highway run because flat out she would do 77 mph with the engine screaming at 2800 rpm. And I mean screaming because that's all you heard since the truck was not air conditioned and in the high New Mexico desert you had those Windows open!

Well i bought the truck, had to change all four chambers on the rear and some abs problems, besides the point. I LOVE the 3406, not a drop of oil used, no blowby and lots of power and get up. I can say its faster than a S60, Not alot of stress like my old 350 and Amazingly fuel efficient i know bobtail isnt exactly a load but it got about 7.5 mpg. I really love this engine. Seems like it may be reliable.
