Is there a suggested radiator manufacture? I know I have heard about Detroit Radiator but are there any others that I should get a quote from. I am going to talk to the local Kenworth service manager about the radiator requirements for the engine for this truck since the parts girl apparently never got anywhere. I also found a broken manifold bolt the one directly below the turbo that mounts to the engine.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Just to update this thread. I have replaced the radiator and while doing so found a crack in the ata and replaced the fan with a bigger one. I am still not happy with the cooling so I am going to dig deeper like suggested when I get some time where I don’t need the truck Monday. The old core was definitely in need of being replaced.
Anyone have any suggestions on preferred methods of flushing the coolant system? -
I have finally got around to pulling the pump and backing plate. Attached are the pictures of each. Not knowing what exactly good or bad is like, the oil cooler is the only thing that looks funky to me. The rubberish type of material in front of it. I did pull the male-to-male o ring adapter and some of it crumbles out but most seems attached.

@wore out do you see anything that would lower the pressure or should be replaced?

Thank you. I am going to install new thermostats since I have it off as well.

Now and then a radiator needs flushing from every angle you can get to it from.
I have all kinds of adapters to hook up to different size hoses to apply garden hose water, then I can open a valve to give a burst of shop air.
This is no short process either you just have to flush until the water runs clean. If that in fact is the problem and sometimes it is.
If the truck comes up to normal operating temp like it should but overheats under a load, there's a good chance the radiator is clogged. Or of course the water pump can always be bad and I think there are ways to test that as well.
