I do and with new filter and wide open throttle it’s at the beginning of the 20 mark. Basically the beginning of redspsauerland and Oxbow Thank this.

What do you think about the theory? To me any motor gas or diesel when making higher hp’s the air intake usually needs to be upgraded right? I’m not big on turbo stuff thoughOxbow Thanks this.

Two things come to mind:
First, so many T800s are heavy haul trucks that I have to believe the air filter restriction issue can't be all of your problem unless KW has an under-hood option for a bigger filter.
Second, if you go back to what Swan said about the 177148, you pretty much have that turbo maxed out, especially because you likely run at higher rpms pulling that heavy. I run a 177148 on one of our B models and while it makes a phenomenal difference in spool up and at lower rpms, I have always felt it was a bit lacking above 1600 on a long pull.
At least you have been able to run! Hopefully you can heal up financially and try some other options later on. -
From talk to kenworth the low hp motor came standard with under hood filter, the dual was a option. But the high hp T800 came standard with dual filter cans. Under hood wasn’t a option. Take filter out truck pulled like I remember a 3406e. But your right lots of low end pull not as much top end. It’s incredibly better with no filter. Just food for thought.spsauerland, pushbroom and Oxbow Thank this.

Might look at filter options like K&N through the winter, but I have always been leery of them. That is way too high of restriction in my mind. Perhaps you can keep your eyes open for a two can system out of a salvage yard.
I sure hope you get it figured out!spsauerland, Roberts450, Wheeljack and 1 other person Thank this. -
So I’m taking a lead driver job for a big crane company in my area. We are working out a deal for them to buy my truck( hopefully) they just got three 9 axle trailers a brand new T800 wide noise heavy spec and have bridge girders work for the next two years. Over 50 200k in just March alone. I’m looking forward to leading now. I’m really good at my job and looking forward to just going home and being a father and husband after a hard days job. Plus the pay is hard to pass up... it was a learning experience running a heavy haul business, got have a lot of cash to do it right!! Live and learn.....Oxbow Thanks this.

I have a set of dual filters I can install. Friend gave me a extra set, buuuutttt of course the hood is different between the two options and the latch location also. A person can do it, but it’s a lot of cutting shaping and relocating. I’ll just let the new owners do it.spsauerland and Oxbow Thank this.

Congratulations! You'll have the itch now though, maybe a few years from now you can give it another go.
You must be up north? Lewiston or Couer D' Alene?spsauerland and Wheeljack Thank this. -
What you guys where talking about is where I was going with my question on the restriction gauge. No air = no power.spsauerland, idahoheavyhaul and Oxbow Thank this.
