I did buy the Cat “HEAVY load Platinum overhaul kit” had to wait a extra 3 days to get it. also bought a new borg Warner 177148 turbo. But never seen the boost I should have day 1 of the rebuild.spsauerland Thanks this.

ALL RIGHT BOYS!!! Just got to my yard! Truck pulls like a freight train!! Probably thanks to 4:11 gears
But all the direction help me a lot! I even hook my waste gate back up because I was seeing 40 psi of boost. With waste gate I seen 27-30psi, turbo temps high was 900 deg, no hesitations, no vibration from a miss, but I could feel the power flatten out as the fuel got hotter...... probably just me paranoid.
Also I hooked up a scanner my friend has and at idle the throttle position sensor showed 20% and at wide open throttle 90% what do you think about those numbers? Worth figuring out? Down low the truck will pull any weight at half throttle but wide open just feels kinda gutless. Never less it running and making me money, at this point that’s all I need.Wheeljack, Oxbow, swaan and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think what your feeling with power kinda falling flat on the top end is that turbo . Nothing really wrong with it as it's the correct turbo for your application. I just find they are really really good on the bottom end rpm and off idle response but just dont have the flow up top. Reason being is the exhaust housing and turbine wheel size.
Honestly for your application hauling heavy all the time a borg Warner 1489-988-000 with a 1.45 exhaust housing on there would be better. Would give you some more up top and let the engine breathe better.
Maybe just run it for a while and recoupe some earnings for a bit first.

I really enjoyed that 5DS file on my 5EK. With the 58’s, it ran like a raped ape. Fun fun to drive loaded. But had to change it to a 550 brakesaver cuz I had to drop the retrofit DPF in it. Still runs great.(thanks Commiefornia)Last edited: Nov 19, 2019

Something just clicked ! This studder you had. Was it when you was pulling and had the boost pressure on the high side ? You didn't mention before you had the waste gate hose blocked. If you have a low nox file in it and run with the waste gate line blocked you will get a studder on the highside. The ecm is trying to not over fuel based on the boost.
