if he welded a bracket on the frame without disconnecting the batteries you may have fried the computer =====expensive bracket

Yah, if you don't see RPM when cranking, and you have changed the sensor, plus the welding, I would try a test ECM. Sorry.

The cam sensor or timing sensor is bad. Take it out and try pulling the tip out with screw driver and put it back in. If the sensor is good it will start right up if it won't it needs a new one. Common thing on 40 pin 3406E's. That is your problem I'm 100% sure.

    Hi,
I spoke to my guy and he said all he did was disconnect the + bat connector before he welded the bracket on.

Could this have cooked the ecm ?

Also I put in a new cam sensor at the start of the trouble. The one they sent me has the enclosed tip, no plunger on it. I was told to install it without the shim. Is this correct? Still wont start.

I'm no expert but my cam sensor went bad recently. My stop engine light came on too. I think if you try starting it and when it does not start, leave the key on and hold the resume switch on the cruse control down for about 5-10 seconds. If theres a code the check engine light will start flashing. Count the flashes and it will give you the 2 digit code. I think the cam sensor is either 34 or 43. I can look it up for you if you get a code that way. On mine the code went away as soon as the key was shut off so the ecm said no codes. When I replaced mine I left the copper washer on it, is that what you are calling the shim?

Want to know the reason for the stainless washer? Pull the sensor tip out till it stops then screw the cam sensor in without the washer real snug then remove the cam sensor and now install the stainless washer. You have now set the correct clearance between the cam gear and the cam sensor.

    EverLuc Thanks this.

    To Brickhauler......

The code that flashed > "stop engine" light 5 blinks..pause 5 blinks then light shut off.

To 05chopper...... the old cam sensor has the green plunger....the new one has no plunger just a sealed end. I hope this is just an updated sensor that is correct for this engine.

I'll try and post the picture I took of the two sensors

    Thanks again
