I never knew there was three hood styles. Will a 3408 make more power that a 3406b?

You bet they will. I do believe thou that they will not live when over done like the 3406. I do feel that 900 to a 1000hp can be made with a 3408 and it live but not cheap. As for the hoods the short hoods are 113" from the front of the hood to back of the cab the standard is 119" and the ext hoods were 127".

Friend of mine had an extended cowl KW with a V-12 twin turbo. They moved everything back 12" and added an extended hood. Was a heck of a nice truck! Not sure what ever happened to it. He still owned it back in the mid 90's. Also had a 5&4 or 6&4 backing it up. Pulled the old frame rails and put in 5/8" rails. One of the best heavy haulers this country has ever seen. His father owned Atkins of Indiana; later known as A of I. Appliance white cabs with John Deere green frames. Melvin used to say green like money.

After all that work I would say it was more of a purpose built truck using bits from a donor KW then an adapted KW.
