I went right from school to a concrete mixer, no OTR crap for me. I know at least 10-12 guys that did the same sort of thing. It can be done. Maybe it all depends on the area you live and what the job market is in that area. You may have to move to another area.
I probably should retire, but I do really like my company and job.

Ok. I really don't want to join the naysayers, but I am going too.

    1. You aren't paid to sit home.
    2. Going home during training because you wanted to was just dumb.
    3. You have way to many issues to do OTR.
    4. Going home during training becuase you wanted to was just dumb.

If you get a new trainer I will be surprised.. walk away now while you are home.. you walk away on the road, you're on your own to get home.

I haven't been home since the beginning of Dec. and I am not scheduled to be for another 2 weeks..

Thanks for chiming in without reading the previous posts. I did not have a phase 2 trainer yet to begin with. There is no get another trainer. There are 2 trainers:1 for phase 1 and another for phase 2. There is often a gap between leaving your phase 1 trainer and even having a phase 2 trainer available.

And as for calling me dumb, grow up. Everyones tolerance for being gone is different. So don't be rude. There was no need for your post at all.

Actually the one that needs to grow up is you. Going home during training just because you want to is the equivilant of walking away from a job.. as for my post you need to be slapped in the face. While others are cuddling you, what you need is a dose of reality.. there is no time out here for missing family to the level you do.. going home every two weeks is going to end up costing you more than sitting at home unemployed. You simply are not cut out to do OTR and you need to walk away, before even a possible local job isn't obtainable.

"Some choices we live not only once but a thousand times over, remembering them for the rest of our lives."

Our families are a very important part of our lives.......and these companies know that, thats why they coming up with all of these special home time programs. Having had some issues, prior to landing at USA, I can see your reason for needing a few days at home. They will make you feel like you did not live up to your commitment, but providing your phase one trainer has been giving good reports to the training manager, you should be fine.

With that said, this work is tough and looking at it as your only option, will make it even rougher. These are just some thoughts, not advice......you have enough people here providing that. Keep us updated.

PS You sound like you have a great family and love your children very much, that is something to proud of.

OK, I have been patient and I have tried to help you since your first post. To be honest however, I am through with your whining. You are not cut out to be a driver. I do not think you have any idea what you have gotten into, you keep thinking that if you want it to be different, it will be so. You need to be delivering pizza until you find an 8 to 5 job. I kept thinking,"he will buck up, he is just getting used to it" It is just not going to happen. Find a local job, any local job, and do not go OTR.

Also, read your own posts, they were not sending you home, you asked to go home. I really doubt anyone is going to bust their butt to find you a stage 2 trainer after you asked to go home for a birthday party.

This is true, but you won't make much money on that schedule. You will be given short runs instead of long runs with miles on them. With the short runs, comes a lot of wasted time waiting between load assignments. If you want to make any money in this business, you have to stay out at least 4 weeks at a time.

In addition, you earn one day of home time for every 7 days your out. I would rather be home 4-6 days instead of 2 days at a time.

I also want to add that not all the trainers at USA Truck are Phase 1 and 2 trainers. My trainer is taking me through both phases.

Unfortunately, my trainer is a phase 1 only. I'm not sure why since he is a very good trainer.

Go >>> here <<< and find a local job. Stay off the big roads is my advice.
