OTF, do what you need to do for yourself, when I got my license at 19 I was given no help from the placement department due in part to my age, but I hit the grindstone, so to say, and landed a local job, it took almost 2 months but I worked there nearly 3 years. I tried OTR as well, thought I'd love it, well I hated it just like you do, don't listen to these D-bags telling you you're not cut out to be a driver, now I would agree that you're not cut out for OTR, but what is so bad about local, I've been with my current company for 3 years now and made $44,000 last year, and I'm home every night. Don't be fooled by some of these "you're a sissy" mentalities on this board, these are the same guys that will BS you at the fuel pump for horus about how they made it from LA to Miami in 2 days, but yet they'll sit there all day and tell the same stories, some people are just legends in their own minds. Keep your head up and if you find out that trucking as a whole is not for you walk away from it with dignity and chalk it up to life lessons.
onthefence and 123456 Thank this. -
Well did you get the call?

Yes, I'm sure they could use a "team driver" by the weekend, with all the delays this storm is causing. Me thinks the system will be full of "Hot" freight by the end of the week.
-
Well, I supose your heading out in the morning?
-
Nope. Bus back to Ohio Saturday 4:30pm. I should meet my trainer Monday.
As if I didn't have enough pressure: no paycheck this week since they charged me for the bus ticket home and our income tax check is only enough to cover 2 months rent and nothing else-no catching up on bills, nothing. -
I'm sorry to hear that things are rough for you money wise. Hopefully they will not charge you to travel back to Ohio. Well Greyhound is hiring nationally, big hiring drive check Career Builder.

I guess it's not a charm. I traveled a day and a half to Ohio by bus. When I arrived on Sunday, my trainer calls to tell me I will be driving that night-ALL night. If he had called Saturday maybe I could have gotten more rest. As a result, I barely made it to the end of my shift. I couldn't stay in my lane near the end because I was too exhausted. And my shifting, which was good enough for my phase 1 driver was not good enough for my phase 2 driver. We are at least 8 hours away from the terminal he plans on dropping me off at. I wish the training liaison had waited until I got into town to call as my trainer still has said nothing. 8 hours suspense sucks!
As for 'now what?' I have NO idea. -
Final update on my USA Truck experience:
My final check was suppossed to be around $150, but they decided to charge me for my bus ticket home and orientation fees leaving me with...NOTHING. So no check for 3 weeks! Thank God I already had an unemployment claim open; not my first choice, but need to feed the kids. Oh well, back to the drawing board.123456 Thanks this.
