3rd Times a Charm?

I spoke to Blackie on the telephone today about Trainco's Perrysburg location. I like the fact that Maverick and TMC send recruiters there.

 

Big thing is to just relax.. that school sounds scary though, I'd raise hell and a complaint to the state about them.

 

The school's 'gift' to me is a half day training tomorrow (7AM-12PM) and then on Saturday, on the bus again.

 

Fence; I have been reading of your travels and become "invested" in your outcome as have many others. I am not a trucker but have spent my whole life as a pilot (military and airline) and can share your anxiety about doing a check ride. They can be stressful and unkind to your nervous system!! My advice is to mentally slow things down to the point of being a slow motion picture. By this I mean; don't rush anything you're doing, see the next task but think through it slowly and try to stay ahead of what you are doing. Chew gum and talk yourself through the ride as you're doing it--stay relaxed.

We all want you to make it through this and we are pulling for you. Keep telling yourself you will make it and when you're finished you will look back and wonder what all the fuss was.

I'm planning on going to a community college next month and start my cdl processs as i'm retired now so I sense what you're going through. The best of luck to you and keep us posted. BTW, ignore anything from DedButt--his negitivity only reflects himself and not you. You have shown the guts to keep trying to achieve something you desire and that's as positive as you can get!!!

 

This may sound odd...but wake your significant other up early, and have a nice game of hide the pickle.

Seriously, it'll help you relax; I have problem with oral boards (get yer minds out of the gutter I put them in, this was for a warfare qual!) I can fix anything, know the mission inside and out, and never had to study a rating exam...but in front of a Board, I lock up tighter than a nun's chastity belt at Fleet Week. The morning of my re-board (Bombed the first one...duh...) my wife met me in the parking lot across from the hangar, we climbed up in the van, had a nice "lunch", and I smoked through the board no problems!

 

That won't help since I will be leaving home on Saturday and the road test is not until Monday afternoon. I will have riden on a bus for 18-20 hours in that time, so any stress relief would be negated by Monday afternoon. Thanks for trying to help.

 

Well then, rub one out first thing....can't hurt, might help!

 

Problem is, with the stress, he might not be able to get the General to salute...then he'd really be feeling bad!

Good advice from Redwave... concentration is important behind the wheel, whether you're taking a road test or embarking upon your thousandth cross-country trip. Sounds like you want your CDL-A badly enough to work for it, and that's a big part of the equation as well... when your time comes, take a few deep breaths and focus on each task in sequence. Don't get flustered by a momentary lapse, just do your best to maintain your composure and concentrate... my gut feeling tells me you'll be alright, as you want your license badly enough to earn it, as many drivers here have already done despite experiencing the same apprehension.
