Us Xpress said no due to an accident in June. They had given me a prehire, but took it back when they read the attached police report. Covenant claimed I hit a curb, I did not feel it vp

    onthefence,

I don't want to sound like some expert, because I still learn something new everyday. When making a turn, if possible grab a little more of that LH lane and keep the wheel straight, riding the center line until you can see where those tandems are heading, once fully cleared.... center back up in that RH lane. It sounds like your just getting close and they are calling it a curb shot. They want students as far from the curbs as possible....so it becomes habit. Sometimes real world it will be impossible, but they never take students on a test route like that.

I think PTL also has all automatics, not sure if they still take students. If you do a search on here, there is a post on listings of Auto only companies somewhere.

What is the procedure to recover from a missed gear? If I am correct you just slow down downshift to lower gear, or just shift it in higher gear, and then downshift... correct, or not?

    Freightliner,

Did your school teach about "the middle of the range" & what gear for each road speed range ? Basicly, lets say you are going from 7th to 8th in a 10 speed, and wait too long and miss the shift....... I would look down and see how fast I'm going, I know that in my truck (500 horse Cat with a 10 speed) if my road speed is 21 miles per hour, that means 7th gear.......so to recover the gear I would raise the RPM's slightly to the middle of the range, push in the clutch and select 7th gear. When get on your own, you will find that if the road speed and RPMs are lined up you will not even need to use the clutch and it will almost fall into the proper gear.......but while on a student evaluation, always use the clutch.

Each engine, transmission, and rear-end combo will have a slightly different shift point for each gear. I know with my first company, they used stripped down Freightshakers with 10 speeds and 60 Ser. Detroits, their shift points were slightly higher.

Nice. Went to Greyhound to pick up my bus ticket. Albany, GA ordered, I live near Albany, NY. Grrrr..

2 hours shifting today. Hopefully that's enough. I guess I'll know on Monday.

I am headed to Ohio for USA Truck.

Apparently, they take out $25/week to pay for orientation. If you stay 6 months, you receive the money back with 5% interest. It would be nice if they would wait until after training since $350/week is not enough as it is.

How long is their training? Roehls training period is at most just under 4 weeks and they pay only about $350 a week. Any longer at that pay and I'd be belly up lol...
