With 4 points I would call trucking companies before you go to trucking school.I had 3 points on my licence and had a very hard time getting a job for a while.I would do more homework if I was you.

companies do not give a sheet how many points anyone has (as they vary by state). Companies care about how many TICKETS you have, and WHAT tickets you have.
Seatbelt (safety/liability issue)
Cell Phone while Driving (safety/liability issue)
Disobeying a Traffic Signal (safety/liability issue)
American TruckerG/MAN Thanks this. -
Not a safe driver, overall.
Especially at the helm of a big rig. -
I think your ok. Moving violations are mainly what gets their attention. Cell phones are becoming a bigger issue every year. I had a failure to stop at a RxR crossing that kept me from getting a job at a certain company for 7 years. It was the only thing on my record and I was in my personal vehicle 1/2 mile from the house. Seat belt tickets are non moving. Points are erased after 2 years. It sounds like you only have one moving violation and most companies advertise no more than 3 in 5 years or 2 in 3 years. Based on what I've seen and heard over the last several years, the minimum wage outfits are more strict on these kind a Mickey Mouse tickets than the high dollar outfits with the exception of Wal-mart. Walmart requires a 10 year MVR with very little ink on it.

I think they will take the total weight of your abstract; meaning, if it shows up on your abstract they will hold it against you.
Seat belt tickets may not carry points and may not them self seem like much, but it shows a pattern of failing to operate safely. Seat belt tickets, cell phone tickets, failing to follow highway safety devises such as traffic signals and signs do not help.
You no doubt understand that truck driving requires you to be a safe and professional driver. What evidence are you going to show a company (OR should I say their insurance company) that says you not only know how to operate safely, but do???
ANY OTHER VIOLATIONS OR ACCIDENTS EVER??
Probation in last 10 years?? Bankruptcy or bad credit? While credit problems do not often come into play for most drivers, it can cause problems if other areas of your record is sketchy AND the position you are trying to get requires you to be bond-able. However, most OTR jobs will not require that.
Do you owe back child support?? If yes, many companies require you to be able to go into Canada; back child support can cause you problems in that area. The companies that REQUIRE you to go into Canada may not hire you.
If you have NOTHING else anywhere on your record I believe you may find a job, but you are going to have some challenges with some companies. Each negative item in your background makes it that much harder to find someone to hire you.
Good luck and be safe. -
The only one that would be of concern would be the disobeying a traffic signal citation. That is the only one that should be considered a moving violation. The cell phone ticket might be of concern to a potential employer, as it should be for anyone driving a commercial vehicle. Beginning in a few days if you are driving a commercial vehicle and use a cell phone you could be on the hook for more than $2,700 and your employer for $11,000. That will be an attention getter for any carrier.
