Your book is newer. Mine does not list the use of silicone. I would use that part number or the Mack product for their liners.
If those are lower press fit liners you know you are not going to install them with a driver. Or at least should not.
If you did not have shims you will not need them if the block is correct. You cannot add shims without cutting the block. The first size is .007 followed by .020. Never reuse them. I put the silicone on the liner and then install the shim. Push extremely lightly and it will hold the shim to the liner when you install it. I rolled one once by laying it in the block. The liner taper caught and rolled it. Had to pull it back out.

I’m of the belief that these are upper press fit liners.

couple things i observe. you should still have pressure on the liner while measuring the protrusion. whether it’s a press and plate or bolts with washers.

secondly it may be nicer to have a more pointy tip on your indicator so you know exactly where it’s touching and not getting a false reading from a ledge.
third is that liner is the looks like the newer style with a flat-ridge-lower flat. i have never seen a straight answer whether should be measuring on the very outside of liner or just inside of the ridge. inside to outside of ridge is about .003” difference

I’ll agree that the tip could be more refined. I’ve also got and use and old Starrett dial sled. Preciate the help.

What are y’alls thoughts on the liquid copper head gasket stuff? Do y’all recommend the “oversized” head gaskets or the “standard”? Heads were resurfaced and the deck is in pretty good shape.

Looking good. Just realized, I've never built a diesel engine out of the truck. I've had thoughts of it before, just takes time I usually don't have.

When they connected the piston, rod and pin together, they had me boil a pan of hot water. He dropped the piston in the hot water for a few, pulled it out and the pin slip easily as if it was lube.

Got to checking my push tubes and noticed two of my injector tubes are different than the other four. The tube on the right is the style that there’s only two of and its part number is 3032681. The one on the left, that resembles the others is, 3027214. I don’t notice anything different about the rocker boxes but I’m in the process of cleaning them. IMG_7680.jpeg
