I purchased this truck because the owner decided to get a new truck rather than have the extensive oil leak fixed. Expecting to have to put a rear main seal into the motor further inspection revealed the leak coming from the oil pump. I just completed the repairs so here is the update.

    Cummins Shop Manuals $150.00
    Gasket set $9.07
    Replacement fluids $50.00
Bandages for the busted knuckles $10.00

Total repair costs $219.07 including the books which of course will be of use for years to come. So it actually cost around $60 to repair.
It took a day and a half which would have been less if I had the correct puller to get the accessory drive gear off.

The power steering pump pressure hose is leaking so that will add about $30 and I need to find the elusive "hissing snake" that lives under the cab.

Well now that you have that truck running are you looking for a load?
I have a 53' trailer 30 minutes south of Chatt. TN that needs to be delivered to MI. Mileage is roughly 650 miles. Trailer will be empty and can be pciked up on the 29th or 30th and delivered whenever.........as long as it is not weeks later.

Those international trucks are well built and thats a sweet deal on it. They arent the best looking trucks but I like the interior and dash setup as much as any, function are what they had in mind building those trucks I have one just like that with 970000 on it and I wouldnt consider selling it 4 that, it does have a inframe on it though. I also have a freightliner classic and prefer the international for everyday situations in most cases. What motor does ur truck have? Mine has a n14 in it with straight ten.

Guess there is more than one leak. The one's I replaced the gaskets on are oil free but now I see some oil coming from somewhere on the drivers side above the starter area. Guess I need to buy more bandages. :biggrin_25525:

Oh yeh. I still haven't found that darn hissing snake under the cab.

WTM I have the N14 Plus with a silly10' 3.90 rears on 22.5 LP but I want to go to 24 talls to get my RPM's down a bit more.

Should be a good combination, the later ones with the ISX and auto shift in the top 2 were the reason CRST has gone to Columbias with the straight 10.

At least, that's what someone from the company has told me on more than 1 occasion.

What does it run for RPMs in top gear at cruising speed?

Sounds just like the one I have. I just put the 11r 22.5s on it instead of the lowpros and that helped it alot the 24.5s might choke it down to much mine will run 70 at 1600 and climb mt eagle grossing 80k in 7th has been a good truck to me more then paid 4 itself several times. Mine leaks a little around the valve covers and cam followers but the not enough to mess with. That n14 is a dang good motor I inframed mine at 700000 and havent done anything but routine stuff since.

Congrats man, good 2 hear you're gettin' it together. I suggest that you stay with the lo pro 22.5's for fuel mileage because they have a lower rolling resistance. Also, worn tires have lower rolling resistance so if your tires are decent run them all the way out. The BEST way to get fuel mileage is to slow down. I'm down from 70 - 75 to 65-64-63 and picked up a mile to the gallon. This puts me at 1300- 1350 rpm with my ACERT and that's my sweet spot it seems. I'm now getting 6.2-6.5 with my brick. Slower speeds equal lower maintenance costs, fuel savings and reduced stress! I think with your tranny and rear gears your sweet spot will be in the 58-59mph range. Also had a boost leak fixed in my air to air and that helped too. What are you going to be pulling? Things are TOUGH out here right now but if we can make it now we can make it anytime!

Right now its running about 1640rpm at 70mph

the 11x24 will put me at 1522rpm at 70mph ........at 65mph i'll be at 1480rpm which should put me in a good spot for milage.
although the lp's have less rolling resistance I think i'll get more from the drop in rpm's with the 11x24's...

yeh the 11x 22.5 at 70mph will run her at 1600rpm

I am in southeast ga so as long as i am logging local there's nothing more than a little hill here and there.

WTM got the e-mail ..thanks for the info
