Hello all, have purchased a perfect condition 2004 crew cab Durastar 4300 with 6+1. Runs great, will turn into a service truck.
Am looking for a way to use the International tools such as DLB and SDS/third party such as JCOM1939 monitor to read DTC, configure and edit body control module etc.
I have had an ELM327 OBD2 to USB adapter for ForScan on Ford pickups, and figured I would buy a j1939 to OBD2 adapter, and the best communication I can get is showing truck voltage in JCOM1939.
I hear good and bad about USB Link 2/3 and DPA5 and a few other adapters, any preference? What is the cheapest? They all seem expensive, and then will third party software work?
Hope I posted in the right place. Thanks.
4300 Int'l j1939 communications?

USB link 2 or 3 are recommended best with those programs and what we use at the dealer level. The issues we have is with broken usb cables from over usage.

Awesome, thank you. So I should use all the IH Programs? I am wondering, will JCOM1939 monitor work in place of the SDS? You would figure its just a different GUI maybe with different features? Thanks.

With your truck, I would not bother with SDS. SDS is really for only newer products 2021 or later. DLB and ServiceMaxx 1708 should be all you need. I believe ServiceMaxx is free to download and use as well.

Yea I have ServiceMaxx 1708 but will that program also work with say usb link 2 and j1939???? The j1939 software is not freeware it seems. Thanks you for the support so far!

The engine can communicate through 1708 to the program. USBLink 2 will work no problem. 1939 is needed for the body controller which is DLB.

Ah now I understand, thank you!
