45-48-or 53' which one?

Part of the problem is they will require a 48' whether you need that length or not

 

The industry is set around spread axles on flatbeds as well. I'm not saying you couldn't get a slider to work for you, just saying that shippers aren't used to anything but a spread. If you were staying intrastate FL, it wouldn't be a problem as we have different rules down here. That trailer will probably cause you a lot of frustration trying to run general freight.

 

Old post, but for those who ask the same question… Real simple solution when checking loads on the board; just look for the loads that say 48’ “flatbed OR step deck”… 48’ SD standard will only have 39-41’ bottom deck. 8-10 times these loads will never use top deck…. But before booking ask broker if they know what the product or load is…generally they should and will give you that info. If they have no clue, red flag and you shouldn’t load it anyway.

 

When I started driving in ’93, I worked for a lumber hauling outfit. All they had were R-model Macks and fixed axle tandem 45-footers.

 

Although fuel prices are high in Cali, I’ve got a 53’, and run Cali, why stay out of Cali, if you can get a good paying load

 

But with a 53' in California you won't be able to run up to the North Coast for all those big $$$$ lumber loads

 

if its a fixed spread a 53 is not legal in cali unless u follow 40ft kingpin rule. Im guessing ur running a tandem setup
