I used to run straight talk but switched to verizon. I know they run on the same network supposedly, but in Kansas and Northern OK, I would lose service on 135/35, yet my verizon phone never lost service so I made the switch. I also got a lot of warnings saying my service was expiring when it was not. That was quite annoying too.

Straight Talk was okay when I had it, but I missed having a smartphone so I went back to T-Mobile. The only annoying thing about Straight Talk was the constant "thank you's" that I got from customer service whenever I answered their questions:

Straight Talk Rep: Thank you for calling Straight Talk, how can I help you?

Me: I want to add minutes to my plan.

Straight Talk Rep: Thank you, may I have your name and cell number please.

Me: My name is Kenworth and my number is blah blah blah w-900 something blah blah blah....

Straight Talk Rep: Thank you Mr. Kenworth, can you verify your address please?

Me: 756 Side of The Road Lane, Syn City NV 89something blah blah blah

Straight Talk Rep: Thank you, Mr. Kenworth, your address is..... :biggrin_2554:

Gah, call them and you will see what I'm talking about! It's good to be polite, but come on! :biggrin_2552:

They have decent plans for those on tight budgets, decent phones, and so-so customer service.

I run Straight Talk on the $30/month cards and have had zero problems thus far. Hella cheaper than my old Verizon plan, for sure.

You guys need to realize that straight talk uses both verizon and at&t towers. They even ask for your personal zip code when you buy one to give you the best service possible. While using straight talk, you will be initially using the service towers around your personal area.

I have had Sprint for about 11 or 12 years. I am tired of all the extra charges they have put on my bill. I am paying about $110/month with all the taxes and fees that they tack onto the bill. My contract is up next month so I am looking around for something that is less expensive and has similar coverage. I have heard about the Smart Talk phone program at Walmart. I understand that Best Buy also has something. I don't know if it is the same thing or not. For those who have the Straight Talk I am curious as to whether they add all the extra taxes and fees other than perhaps local sales tax?

I have the Straight Talk....a flat $45 a month (30 days) for unlimited text, talk, and internet. Buy a card or pay over the phone. So far....great coverage....but time will tell on this aspect.

How is that possible? Verizon uses CDMA, AT&T uses GSM. They are incompatible. It would take a phone with two radios in it to accomplish this.

See the thread on I posted on my new Optimus V from Virgin. $60 unlimited EVERYTHING. And unlike the other pre-paid services, they have some decent smartphones.

When I bought my phone...I was told that the phones with certain serial numbers used AT&T, while other serial numbers used Verizon....
So....the phone isn't tied to both...it depends on which phone that you have on which towers it'll actively try to use.
