Going around the Beltway on the west side, traffic is almost always bad from I-95 to I-270, and again in the vicinity of the junction of I-495 and I-66. The east side just doesn’t get quite as much traffic.
I grew up in Bowie, MD (just a few miles south of the US 50/301 split), and I sure don’t miss driving around there!BigBob410 and Trucker61016 Thank this. -
That whole Baltimore/DC area is a fustercluck. 230AM is probably the best to hit those areas. Or lunch time maybe. East side of both areas usually seemed better.
Few years ago ('09/'10), I was doing a semi dedicated run between Trenton, Nj and Richmond. I hated every second of it. There was enough work there to just keep bouncing back and forth all week long. Being paid by the load, I wanted as many as possible. Doing a load a day was a bit of a struggle with traffic, loading, unloading and working around the receivers schedule of 5AM to 4PM.
That was until I tried 301. And going against company policy of splitting my Sleeper berth. After that doing six loads in five days became easy. Some of the other guys doing that same run figured out what I was doing and blew the whistle on splitting the sleeper berth. Then I was sent on a permanent vacation running out to Indiana and back to Jersey. Which was fine by meBigBob410 and RedForeman Thank this.
