5" or 7" GPS

Probably why he is teaching for $12 an hour instead of driving. Never heard of such a thing. Common sense would tell you not to mount in line of site. Mine is on panel with gauges. Not in window of any type.

 

It's called obstructed vision. Been around for a long time. Your right though about common sense but that is in short supply these days.

 

I have a 500 and feel the same...I couldn't justify the extra cost for such a small increase in size and have found everything I need to know is there and big enough...

 

I have the 710, you can get a separate accessory that attaches to the steering wheel and drives the truck for you.

My husband and I both have a Garmin Nuvi 2460LT 5" screen and it works great. It's a good size to use in both the big truck and our personal vehicles without getting in the way. You can customize information on the unit, hook it up to your computer and download your own information, notes, directions, speed limits, etc. Hubby's uncle (who's a truck driver, too - 32 years now) and a buddy of his created a "trucker's route" program that included trucker-friendly rest areas, routes, truck stops, weigh stations, etc. that we were able to load on the unit via data card within seconds.

Of coarse, as hubby and most of the truck drivers here will tell ya - a GPS is great, but being able to read & understand a map is always best.

 

I always buy a new Rand McNally every year even with a gps and carry Gazeteers for all the surround states. They are essentially the entire collection of topographical maps in an atlas form. If you want to take a short cut you can open it up and look at the road and the squiggly line it makes coming down a mountain and decide for yourself if its a good idea or not.

 

I just went on Ebay and brought me a PC Miler 740 with a 7 inch screen it needs updating, but I always compare my directions with three sources gps, company route, and directions direct to shipper and consignee. I like the mount because I might just mount it to the dash and lower it enough to where it's not blocking my view.
