Only nice thing about flat bed is that usually you wont have to lump the load. However, when I was with Western Express I met a driver whom was driving a skateboard of house shingles. The load shifted in the desert and he had to go and manually restack the whole load in 120+ F mid day heat.

Something I dont see happening with a van.

restack may be necessary sometimes, but in those temps a van would suck without air movement. easily 20-30 degrees hotter inside.
