Ok lets talk. I was hit by a drunk driver last week. I am now looking at the possibility of having to buy another trailer. I am fine with a 48 but I know I could get 28 pallets on a 50. What do you all think? And a 53 spread is out because well, I just think they look goofy when the bridge is set at a legal length. So 48x102 or 50x102?

Sorry to hear about you getting hit by a drunk. Just remember when you start talking 50ft spreads you'll be limited to the states you can run because of the over length bs unless your axles are set ahead (once again stupid looking in my opinion as well). Some states are pretty bad on it others aren't. CA is the worst (from what I hear I'll die before I enter that state) florida, georgia and conn are pretty bad as well. I stay around the midwest for the most part so I don't really worry about having sliding tandems or kingpin to rear axle crap. If you don't have to deal with that I'd go with a 50x102 over a 48x102.

Yeah I was actually wondering where I could find the rulings for that stuff 379. I think as long as the rear axle is at the 48 foot mark I should meet the bridge laws. As far as California, I am not CARB compliant and nor do I care to be. So thats off the table. I figured the 50 would be the better option as I am pretty sure you can put 28 pallets in it. If anyone knows any different I ask that they please speak up.

How are you gonna get 28 in the 50footer. Double stack some or turn a couple sideways? 28 will not go straight in but you already know that I am sure.

Using standard 48x40 pallets, I can get 25 in a 48 foot trailer. I can't figure out how an extra 2 feet would gain 3 more pallets.

50' trailer is going to be a custom order and you won't be able to run the spread open in California since your going over 48' trailer length. 53's you don't like the way they look, and a 48' doesn't have the extra room you'd like.
I would just stick to a 48' since you can run the spread in all 48 states plus 48' van trailer prices are very cheap. Dime a dozen from my research since nobody wants to run them. And if I were going to buy a van, I would go 48' spread as well. -
sideways you should be able to fit 26 pallets in a 48x102. A 50 should yield 28. I think. Sideways.

You can get 28 in a 48' sideways,30 in a 53"sideways. A 50' allows 24 straight in.
