Ok, here is what happened. I moved a load over to Richmond, and after I called 20 brokers there were no more loads left on Friday. That's because all of the 44 cent drivers snap them up. So the one shipment I was able to get at 4 p.m. I picked it up, and didn't look at the rate sheet because I knew the place. I didn't tarp it, and it didn't rain. I delivered it clean and dry.

Haste makes waste so the old expression goes. Quit beating yourself up, we have all made mistakes that cost us money. You will be fine, now that you have sounded off and got it off your chest. You don't want to be like Cpt Picard in that video and repeating worrying about one bad choice. Next time you will do the right one and maybe just stay away from that broker, shipper, and receiver.

There is no way possible it was clean if it wasn't tarped.

You all need to get on the same page. Here's how you do it: You tell everyone that it was your screwup, totally your fault, and everyone else will laugh, and tell you how they've all screwed up in the past and how it never happened again. See, the conflict is coming because you are making excuses, like the broker, the $.44/mile drivers, he weather...and that doesn't mesh with everyones's mind.

OF COURSE the broker is going to say ok. He agreed to pay you $700 for a tarped load. OUT OF whatever he price he agreed to with the shipper/receiver. NOW he's getting $500 less for that load. WHICH comes out of your pocket. The broker still gets his cut. He don't care if you were completely docked of your pay. AS LONG as he still gets his cut.

As much as it sucks. sometimes. It would appear that shippers and receivers are getting stricter on UNtarped loads. My last load. Had me sign a BOL that i would tarp. And the receiver has to sign a BOL that the load arrived tarped.

As much as everyone on here harped on you for not tarping. I feel your pain. Not many of us like waiting till the last minute of the day for a load and having to tarp it to boot. PISSES me off in california.

I hauled onions 2 weeks ago. All 3 of us fully tarped our loads as rain be coming. We were the last 3 trucks for the day. The shipper WOULD not give us the bills as they ONLY wanted the top of the load covered. I know the receiver however. And THEY want fully tarped. The other 2 trucks were going cross country. But we all had to UN tarp like shipper wanted. Needless to say. i delivered my load of WET onions. But not without a fight with both shipper AND receiver. AND the boss. i tarp and untarp. ONE TIME. ONLY

I was thinking, "$700 load? Sure, for 150 miles. Tarp a $700 load? Not happening."
I don't tarp much, but if someone is willing to pay my tarp rate, I will guarantee you that I will have that load tarped top to bottom.

So, it was a last minute Friday load from Richmond,VA. So it didn't rain. The thing is, the most valuable thing that you possess is your name. Your truck has your name. Your wife takes on your name. Your children have your name. You signed your name on a BOL that stated that you would tarp the load. Do what you say you would do. It's real simple. Number one rule in the business.

But Six, they wouldn't allow me to tarp the load on their property. What would you have done about that?

I would have told the shipper to take the load off my truck. I'm not tarping a load on the side of the highway. If it has to be tarped, it will be tarped on the shipper's property.
