    I think I would like to hear what else makes one a steering wheel holder?

    Sorry... First, and only, time I have seen those kind of scales have been in the NW... :)

    My point being that anytime you hit something for the first time is different than any time after.

    Ryan423 Thanks this.

    Well... Being a "steering wheel holder" myself, I am under the impression, based on comments from other much more experienced drivers, that I am one because;

    I drive an Auto
    I use a GPS
    I use a SmartPhone
    I don't care if I ever drive a true manual
    I might have a CB, but that doesn't help
    I went to a school for my CDL
    I only stop at TS for fuel and showers

    Oh, I guess I use PrePass now too

    There are a few others that I am missing
    So many things to becoming a twue twucker

    ;-)

    Lepton1 and Ryan423 Thank this.

    Hey, 10 years over million accident free miles and I'm still looking to earn that elusive title of 'real trucker'.
    Personally, my favorite part of PrePass is that I don't have to pay attention. I just have to let it beep at me and tell me what to do.

    In my view a SWH is a driver that does NOT respect the job or does NOT care. I think you can be a total {censored} otherwise but be a good driver. Being a SWH does not mean you got your CDL from a school even though a lot of SWHs come from schools. Trucking is changing and this change is not necessarily for the best either. However just because you might use prepass and drive an automatic don't make you a SWH!

    Well, now that's a breath of fresh air...

    Since coming to this site, now a year or so ago, that's the probably the first time anyone here took that approach to the comments about SWH... Normally just a bunch of grumpy old sounding farts moaning and groaning about the new breed of drivers out here and the tools of the trade that they opt to use to do their job... and how awesome trucking was in the 70s and how these new SWHs would never survive it.

    {shrug}

    That comment actually was based in part from several conversations I had with my father in the 90s before he died. My father drove trucks from his Army days in the early 50s right up to the day he retired in 1992. My father actually did drive in all 50 states even though Hawaii was not a state then. The only real complaint my father had for greenhorns was they were hard on clutches. Otherwise he was tolerant and as I do try to teach them the ropes.
