    Here's the problem with this thread.:

    According to Opie, he was pulling a hazmat load and missed a weigh station in Louisiana. Throw the prepass conversations out because they don't factor. Not with Hazmat and Louisiana. He says that he was "daydreaming".
    Wayyyyyy before you come up to the coup, there is a sign a few miles out, big white sign, alerting you of the weigh station. The next sign, about 2 miles out says something about all trucks right lane. Next sign says stay in lane. Solid white line replaces the yellow zipper line. There is another sign that says something about following the prepass in your truck. The next sign is an electronic sign telling you whether or not to enter the scale. PREPASS supersedes this sign, hazmat regs supercedes everything but the last sign

    CLOSED WHEN FLASHING.

    That must have been one heck of a daydream. Opie, I'm not trying to be a buster, but you were driving blind for at least 3 miles! With a hazmat load. The ticket you got is the same ticket that any other commercial vehicle that ignored all the signs would get...$500. If it had been a hazmat ticket, it would have easily been 10x that amount...OR a fine so big that even mortgaging the house off would just cover the bail bond. You're lucky you didn't get locked up.

    Years ago, we were doing a crane move. About 24 trucks, all oversized. We stopped for the night at the TA in Marianna, Fl. The next morning, we head out and get to the scale. I'm up front, little old lady scalemaster comes out. I roll dmy wn the window and hand her the permit, "Morning, mam." "Morning, driver." She goes to the front of my truck to make sure that the baseplate is the same as listed on the permit. I look up, see one of our trucks blowing by the scale. Flagged and bannered. She points at the driver shaking her finger and he toots his horn. Old lady runs, grabs her phone and calls HP.

    5 miles up the road, we see them. The truck and 5 full grown bears. One of them has the green and white bible in his hand and they were at the back of the traile pointing when we left laned it by. They were merciless. 5 digit fine. Of course, the company had to cut him. When asked why he ran the scale with an oversized, he said, "But my prepass blinked green!"

    Anyways, I am assuming that you must be a fairly new driver because a veteran tanker yankercould daydream and play pocket pool and never miss any signs. Right @Chinatown? (J/k)

    Diligence, hand. Bring that A Game every time you play, not only on hazmat loads. Luck in battle.

    How is it not reasonable? Wouldn't everybody just blow by the scale if the fine weren't significant. Come on most scale tickets are larger than that. It would be 'catch me if you can cop'er' if they did't put no weight behind that fine.

    What is not reasonable is working for a low rent outfit hauling hazmat.

    What is not reasonable, daydreaming away when you know you have responsibilities.

    @TripleSix
    One company I was with the driver received a $15,000.00 ticket for crossing a low weight limit bridge in PA with a hazmat load; said he didn't see the sign. Company wouldn't pay it either; the driver had to pay it.

    I don't remember him being locked up. Wouldn't surprise me though because PA is super strict on their bridges and roads about weight limits.

    Next time refuse to accept the ticket and call the US Marshall, the Federal Marshall, the local town Marshall, Penny Marshall and the Marshall Tucker Band.

    If you are in Taxas you only have to call the Rangers. Not the baseball team though.
