In the way north well it was HIA syndrome or something similar. When I seen the sign I was past the point of no return lol. Learned my lesson for sure

Accident, China, Transport
On July 19 2011, the driver, known only as Mr. Zhang, drove an overloaded truck (110 tonnes) filled with sand on to a concrete bridge near Beijing, causing it to collapse. Zhang's fine is equivalent to the cost of the damaged bridge.
Authorities found Zhang solely responsible for the traffic accident, while Mr. Zhang claims he was merely carrying out the instructions of the delivery company.
It is unclear how, if at all, Zhang intends to pay the financial penalty.
According to Chinese media, the average monthly salary of a Beijing truck driver is around $70. At that rate, Zhang will have to pay the fine over a period of 30,000 years before it is all paid out. -
Didn't know Swift had expanded into China ?

Granted, $500 is a lot of money.
If at all possible, when paying the $500 fine, charge it to your credit card, (MasterCard, Visa, etc.), and then pay off your credit card.

If he missed the whole weigh station I am fairly sure he missed seeing if it was open or not.Mudguppy, Straight Stacks and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
Expensive lesson to learn for sure.
If it doesn't effect your CDL pay it and move along. If it does pay a local lawyer to fight it to get it reduced. They will know more about that station etc.
Face it, carrying HazMat and day dreaming is not a safe combo. And the fines reflect that.
You might be "good and legal" in every other aspect but that is not at issue. You passed a weigh station... Big Boo Boo
I missed a weigh station in Florida similar to mentioned above... It was one station in the middle of the two directions of traffic. I was empty and pulled over to the right side of the road... Scampered across the road to the weigh station and asked them if I could turn around to weigh. They said since I was empty not to turn around but do not pass the Ag Station up a few feet. I pulled up to the Ag Station and the LEO was having a good chuckle at my expense, so I joined him in laughing at my mistake.
Tough lesson to learn for sure.
Only you can decide if it's worth fight it or not. Either way it's gonna cost you money.
Good Luck and Stay Safe, and More Aware,
