So the kid is on his way to Jacksonville with 53’ spread axle step deck. I’m reading the Rand McNally road atlas but am confused. Is he only allowed 41’ king pin to center of rear axle group or 41’ to center of rear axle?

Needs a permit for a 53 in Florida.

Because of the spread? I’m really confused.

41’ from the king pin to the center of the rear axle.

KP to rear axle on a 53ft trailer with a 10ft spread is 41ft max.
Here's a link to the Florida DOT website with the rule.

Thanks everyone. When I’ve run spreads into Florida it was always a 48’ so I’m pretty ignorant about this.

If the spread between the spread axles is more then 96 inches rule changes to king pin to center of rear axle instead of center between axles.

Florida is different than most places when it comes to rules.

You can even have 44,000 pounds on tandems vs the 34,000 like most everywhere else.

Did Florida ever get with the modern times on their permit or do you still have to wait for it to come snail mail to your home address? They used to be bright yellow so you could hold it up and not have to go in the scales.

the yellow ones are not vehicle specific- just fleet specific

the single trip or annual vehicle specific are white and self issue

The last time I bought one was 2016 when I was hauling cattle out of down there. The annual overlength was yellow back then and was like $35 or so.
