I’ve never hauled a coil in one, but I do rent one to deliver cars in the city. So much easier to deliver in this than my 80’ car hauler.

NO u-Haul truck has ever had a 40K rear. Maybe a 2.5 ton Rockwell at best.

Sometimes I still rent them to haul the little park models. Did 2 rounds of these from Elkhart, IN to Denver, CO. 1100 miles at $3.25 per mile. I did around $3500. $400 in fuel and $29.99 to U-Haul I still cleared around $2900 per round. I've been trying their big gas powered U-Haul with Flexfuel. So far I've done really well with those. th - 2023-04-02T164928.939.jpeg

Hah it’s a small world. I had a towing service once. All my wreckers were out on a job and this call came in. The guy was towing RV’s and he lost a cam position sensor on his 7.3. I was on rotation with the city police and if they called I had to do the tow. So I rented a uhaul and a trailer. I had to do it about twice a year.

I believe they haul coils one way and scrap back to the plant for the automotive industry. Pretty smart business model.

COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION FUEL CONTINUOUS-LOOP RECYCLING NETWORK
    September 29, 2016
Aluminum manufacturer Novelis faced an intriguing business challenge: how do you provide a continuous supply of aluminum to support production of a highly-anticipated pickup truck at plants located hundreds of miles away -- all while ensuring safety and sustainability, optimizing capital investment, and providing efficiency, flexibility and visibility into shipments?

The answer turned out to be a closed-loop recycling process that shuttles huge aluminum coils from a recycling plant in Oswego, New York, to a stamping plant in Dearborn, Michigan, and then transporting the aluminum scrap back to Oswego to be melted and incorporated into new coils. The entire process runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – with a truck heading out on the road approximately every 40 minutes.”

This is why it's important to get the coil weight centered in the box. A little too far forward and you are going nowhere fast, and being penalized by the broker for a service failure.

It’s also important not to place it too far back. upload_2023-4-4_20-38-31.jpeg
