Most have no idea what they are looking at when my hood is up. Many tell me how to fix my set up. They might know I mean after all I’m just a poor boy in a one bay shop way out in the sticks. If you ask what I’m running I’m tell you a 3176 with an 8LL and 4.33 rears.
What I’m willing to say is it was run on the dyno at frieghtliner in Joplin. I have an acquaintance there he shut it off because the dyno was getting hot. Main and aux were both in direct as supposed to be he wasn’t really in its ### at all and it made 680 at 1900 RPM and almost 2100 ft lbs of torque. They still work on about everything there and leave it like it comes in. They won’t make changes but will leave yours in place. Look on his face was priceless when he said that is the most radical s o b I have ever put on the rollers. I guess he thought he should’ve been against the governor to get to 1900. I really wish he had went to 2150 on the rug just to see. It does what I want it to. Driven like you got some sense it’ll get you 5mpg out there in that wind. Burns absolutely clean doing it very little smoke even shifting. If you’ve ever pulled a cow bus you know the wind in the Midwest is harder than any pull and staying cool in the summer heat can be tough. It’s made more than one get on the radio and say fluff you Cooter fluff you and that GD tug boat motor. I guess cuz it’s white that’s what they think.

What’s with all the gawd #### Coca Cola’s on the dash, son? What was that engine before you got to wrenching on it?

Absolutely it takes more than a couple coats of Matterhorn white to make a White CAT. The cumdumpers and droppin troits were Matterhorn white as well. But it’s the white CAT that become legendary and still bragged on today by some of the ol hands in my area. Heart ain’t something you can build or give they got or they don’t. I agree the white CATS in Paccar products were built the same as the yellow and red ones by the build sheet. Majority agrees that the white was better. I won’t say if they are or ain’t. I will say some times you gotta have something to believe in.
Show trucks impress me none. But having one more really nice working truck is a big deal to me. I don’t believe in the built not bought idea. Even if it it is bought or hired done the owner worked his ### off for the money to pay for it. So in my eyes that’s just as respectable. But it is important to me for the work on this last one be from my own hand. Many parts I’ll have to do over. I don’t think the motor is one of themLast edited: Jul 8, 2023

What size of turbos are those and how do you come to the conclusion on which two to use when that engine was originally just a single? Was your block and crank a 5YG originally? I guess what I’m trying to ask is, you had a hp, torque and reliability goal but maintain a mechanically fueled engine so how did you know what parts to go with/substitute? Is there any other guys you run with or know of that run a mechanical similar to your setup? Just saying it’d take me forever to figure something like that out and 99% of the mechanics round here, just bring tools, no knowledge. I’ve kinda put several of them in their place, during the timing situation of my FIL’s SC Cummins build.

I don’t doubt that a bit. IMO, it could get very risky tinkering and trying to figure out what the right combinations are. That’s what’s fascinating to me.

With my kinda luck all I can smell is defeat. Excessive heat or boost? I can picture that glowing.
