Good evening folks. I noticed the other day that my truck's 5th wheel handle is on the passenger side of the truck. In my 6 years of driving, I have never seen this!

Does anyone here have the same setup? Is there a hidden purpose to this?

    Thanks.

    tscottme and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Swift does this, or did it. I didn't ask why as I didn't realize at the time it was different than normal.

Ah, one of them "British" 5th wheels. I think a 5th wheel can have either side, it's usually just easier to have it on the driver side.

Yes, just because of habit. I might get a new 5th wheel just because of this!

I been with Swift a couple of years now and haven't seen any right side 5th wheel releases. Might still be some, but I don't think they do that anymore.
On the trailer landing gear handles I have noticed most of our older trailers have it on the right side, but our newer ones are all on the left side. Unsure if there's any standard on which side it commonly is, or isn't. Just how our trailers are.

Trucks and trailers can be ordered either way..

Mine was a right when I got it, changed the tip plate to a keft...left.... about $1,000 parts and labor

Trailer landing gear handle is or should be on the curb side for safety reasons. It would also make sense for the fifth wheel handle to be there too.

Well, if nothing else it’s a good way to force the driver to do a walk-around before unhooking the trailer lol.

I have no clue but could you just get the guts and switch it to the other side?
I’d have to look at mine and see if that is an option but sounds like it should be??
