Sanders were used in school buses and other commercial/emergency vehicles. Nowdays it's auto chains.

I don't think I trust auto chains. Of course I don't trust technology.
If this truck was built different. I would give that sander a try!!

Auto chains is good to but in my opinion they are most for smaller trucks.
They are useless on black ice. Good on snow

Would adding a passenger side tank and moving the fifth wheel back help at all?

The fifth wheel is bolted so I would really have to move it.

If you move the fifth wheel back, you’ll widen the gap between the back of the cab and the nose of the trailer- which i’d bet would negate a good deal of the 6x2 fuel savings.

Wonder if you can out a dump valve on just the dummy axle bags; dump when in tight spots, n itd put a bunch more weight on the drive.

Personally I’d run the leveling valve on the front axle and just put a dump on the rear, similar to what people run so they can dump the back axle of a spread. Or you could get fancy and use a regulator so when you dump it only dumps half the air so you don’t teeter all your weight back off your steer axle.

You want your king pin as close to the front drive axle as possible. Mine is directly over the front axle air bag.

Elston Manufacturing still makes them here. They still look like they did 70 years ago.
