This is a classic example of getting into a tight situation when you should set the parking brakes, put on the 4 ways, then call the police to come help you out BEFORE doing anything stupid. I've been in pickles like this before, best to call for help or at least GOAL and maybe get help from a 4-wheeler.

I honestly feel bad for her. Companies need higher standards and stuff like this could be avoided. I'm just glad no one was hurt.NavigatorWife, Lepton1 and tsavory Thank this. -
I've driven for about a dozen major outfits over the many decades. Only one actually imposed a "knowledge test" during the orientation process. It was actually fairly extensive and covered a broad range of "common sense" problem solving, mostly involving mathematics IIRC.
That was TMC. I'm not sure how they dealt with those who did not do well on the test, but I suspect many did not do well, and I guess they are somehow monitored more closely and spend time with a trainer, I guess.Last edited: Dec 28, 2015

Bad situation missed the first turn which got an inexperienced driver frazzled then one mistake after another each added to the frustration till was not thinking clearly. I feel for the driver but same token don't. Everyone needs to know when it's time to stop and ask for help and not try driving without a clear head. I have parked in the middle of the Road put on flashers and got out to look over situations to calm my nerves before. Calm heads preval all the time and it takes experience to know your not calm enough to make decisions without increasing risk.NavigatorWife, FerrissWheel, tucker and 2 others Thank this. -
FWIW I run over low weight limit bridges frequently. It's just the reality of delivering to oil rigs on country roads. Haven't yet been faced with low clearance low weight bridges.
From what I've read about this incident the young lady was familiar with the bridge, but missed a turn and the "fail safe" church parking lot was full of heavy equipment. That left difficult turn arounds.
No matter what, the right thing to do is stop and figure it out.NavigatorWife and ShooterK2 Thank this. -
Yep, classic example of turning a small mistake into a big one.
She wasn't wasting any time crossing that one lane bridge on that small road though.
