The big difference here is it’s a team. So the gross is going to be a bit less than double what a solo truck does. So if they get 40% gross on a good week that’s $4-5k paycheck which is ridiculous for just driving.
60 40 split for company driver under an Owner Operator teaming?

As far as I'm concerned it is never a good idea to be in business with family. Or even friends.
ChevyCam, D.Tibbitt, Midwest Trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
To make things more clear cut and less opportunity for argument then ask for 60 cents per mile on half of however many total miles the truck ran that week. Whether you technically drove half or not.
Maybe have a $1300 minimum and then 60 cents per mile after that. -
I always paid my drivers percentage, but on the gross, I figured the fuel surcharge in on the gross, even though I didn't have to.
I started them at 25% and raised them to 30. I bet that 25% of the gross will pay you better than 40% of the net.Intothesunset and Coffey Thank this. -
I think most drivers are very pleased to make around 1300 which would be only 4350 gross. It’s hard to make much money as an owner with your own authority and trailers while only grossing 4350 per week.
As long as a driver is safe, takes care of your equipment, gets good fuel mileage, and keeps the left door shut then there isn’t much he/she can do to stand out from others or be worth a jump of 1500 to 2400 just because you happened to use your skills as a business owner to put a kick ### week together.
You are the one putting all the risk out there and are the one that has to make it through the bad times. If things turn bad and your struggling to make it, do you really think that driver is going to donate money back to the truck to keep ya’ll going? lol hell no. In fact he will probably leave you high and dry if that dough isn’t coming in like he now expects it too.
Btw I’m not hating on anyone who pays like this it’s obviously super nice for the driver. I genuinely don’t understand.Last edited: Apr 27, 2019

There is more than one way to look at it.
First off, I would have to be hungry to agree to drive anybodys truck for 1300 bucks a week.
Second, sometimes I will have a truck set a day or so to get a load that actually pays, instead of just trying to run miles, the driver has some skin in the game as to what kind of load I find.
Third, say he has a couple of not so good 1300 dollar weeks, that 3000 dollar week, is the shot in the arm that makes it worth it.Dale thompson and adayrider Thank this. -
I just can’t see paying a driver 1800 to 2400+ dollars per week on a regular basis not because I don’t want to or think they deserve it, but because my costs and risk exposure is so #### high the company needs that money to stay healthy. -
Different areas, where 13 to 15 is good money there, it would not get you a decent dump truck driver here. On a good job here, a dump truck driver will gross 700 bucks a day before taxes, Davis Bacon sets the wages, companies have no choice, but to pay it or park. Are we worth that, not in my opinion, but I have been known to leave my truck parked at times and drive someone elses. lol
I have not run trucks down there in several years, but when I did it was over the road, and my drivers would get a 3000 dollar shot in the arm pretty regular, I looked at it this way, I, the company was getting the same shot in the arm.
You may also be paying benefits, which I was not, that would also make a difference.Midwest Trucker Thanks this. -
If I did this for a family member I would change the offer to 33% 33% 33%
1/3 to the truck. 1/3 to the driver 1/3 to the truck owner. But I would base it off gross -
9k a week?
6 k is more realistic. Fuel a 1000 a week 5k. I'm guessing you would be around 1500 a week. 1200 to 1500.
What does your cousin say?
