The CAT computer on our KW T800 shows 8.0mpg over the lifetime of the truck (795,000miles) at 65mph according to driver logs. I can see how he's getting 8.8 if he is in a newer truck.

This is assuming that he would actually get the additional miles if he ran the 2mph faster. If he still is assigned the same miles there's still a benefit, he'll finish the day and/or week quicker.

People will have you believe of the two, fuel is the only thing of value. Especially as an O/O.

If thats the case, then worry about fuel economy only.

Time AND fuel have value. It's up to you to find the balance you feel is right.

The myth is that if you drive faster you're going to be able to run more miles/loads. The problem is that unless you're running open delivery/drop and hook loads, the delivery appointments don't change. SO, all you gain by running faster many times is a few hours a week sitting at the truck stops. IF I can get a load off a day earlier and get another load on the same day then I'll run as fast as legally possible but if I have an 8am delivery appointment what do I gain by getting there at noon the day before?

Will have call status if the someone fails to show up.

I have gotten in as much as 8 hours early sitting there when an appt failed to arrive. Dumb luck? Not in my book.

Getting there the night before also lets you do a 10 hour reset and be fresh when you get unloaded as well. Especially if you sit on the dock off-duty in your sleeper. And yes, with you company writing a letter that is 100% legal.

    This is a big lie.

The difference in 2 miles per hour will not equate to 2 days ahead.

The diffference is simply where one driver stops more and spends more break times than the others.

    otherhalftw Thanks this.

Yop. They can't keep the left door closed.

As a driver, your critical commodity is time not fuel.
