2 weeks ago I decided to try a little experiment...I started driving the actual speed limit in both CA and OR, and the actual speed limit in WA. My experiment was to find the actual, true mph average from point A to point B...not by getting there and claiming a "fictitious" mph average (53.4 if heavy for example).
What I found, was my mph average was actually 48.6 (77k average load), my fuel consumption went from 5.9 to 7.8, and the Gordon drivers (among others) got to exercise the middle finger as they waited and waited and waited to pass me!
BTW...this fuel consumption average is based on actual fuel purchased....the on board computer took me from 7.2 up to 9.7! Don't believe those on board computers!!!!SHC, BigBadBill, Roadmedic and 1 other person Thank this. -
BUT....BUT....BUT....you're inserting a factor that is considered a "4 letter word"...........
COMMON SENSE!
Smaggs and BigBadBill Thank this. -
In '07/'08 I did So CA to Portland and back. I saw a lot of those fingers coming from Blue trucks. Also saw many of them making a choice on if they wanted a speeding ticket or falsification of log ticket at the North Bound Scale entering OR.otherhalftw Thanks this.

Honestly when the day is over and you have a 20k truck getting 5.8mpg vs a 40-100k truck getting 8mpg. Id take the 20k truck that gets 5.8 and then buy another one in a few years. Fuel isnt everything.

Something isn't right. I'm getting better mileage than you at a higher speed.

c12 mid roof 10 speed with 3.90's. trucks running for 13 hours a day and i drive about 415 miles on average pretty much floored. going 67-76mph
I pull a lot of high cube 40's and 20's with a tri axle chassis -
Driving for a company where they control the miles you run each week 2 mph wont make a difference, If you run 3K miles a week 2 more mph wont save you a full hour of time. So giving up $1100 a quarter to go 2 mph faster IMO is not worth it. Look at it like this 1 hour a week for 12 weeks its like they are paying you $91 a hout to drive 2 mph slower. Now if you could get the extra miles how much more would you make in the 12 hours you saved
SHC Thanks this. -
have them bump it up to 65 and use the cruise on 63. some places set the trucks like that. a whole whopping 2 mph more on the pedal. mine is even steven. 74 on cruise and the pedal.
