    It is more the overall type of business you develop. Large companies that pay by the mile or take big cuts make good money keeping drivers running hard. I honestly can't think of the last time one of my drivers HAD to take a 34-hour restart on the road.

    BigBadBill, are you talking about direct freight right from the customer or off load boards when you talk about setting rates?

    That was my comment about setting the rate. Any freight direct or loadboard. You set the rate your truck moves for not them.

    our trucks are set up for max fuel mpg including side skirts wings on the back and wheel covers every 3 months the driver with the best mpgs gets a harley davidson and all drivers have had mpgs over 8.4 mpg for the past 30kplus miles im at 8.9mpgs they reset the truck every 3 months

    switching from company driver to o/o this week trucks are governed @71 but i think im going to stay @63 havent been late for a load yet due to proper planning will update my mpgs after the next 3 month period

    The truck I have on order... 2013 FL Columbia with a pre-egr detroit in it... will have enough engine mods that if it isn't a mid 8 mpg truck, and even bumping 9's with lighter loads, I will be shocked. But then, It wouldn't be the first time I am wrong. But with what I am doing to it before it even starts to work, there will be little excuse for that engine to get a lot of work done on as little of fuel as possible. And it doesn't hurt that I usually run around 60-62 mph and the truck is spec'd to work in that range. No off the shelf specs that dealers like.
