70k gross I8 east of san diego my 5EK will hold with just engine brakes, somewhere around 25-30 mph. North or South I5 grapevine 80k gross my 5EK will hold with jakes, close to 20-25 mph. i never use my air brakes going down hill unless i absolutely have to

Even when I was hauling for a construction company and grossing 130k to 140k I'd run a little bit slower but the same method worked for me. Never had any brake issues and was always able to stop when I needed. Yes it was a lot more weight but I also had twice as many axles and brakes.

I guess your diaphragm is ok if you get 60, but if you ever wonder pull the lever with the engine shut off. You'll here a gurgling sound if it's bad if you crawl under there.shooter19802003 Thanks this. -
