I really don't understand the glider thing. My brain says to put lots and lots and lots of money into old trucks. Those gliders are crazy expensive.

But what do I know, I'm not a brain surgeon nor rocket scientist.

Really it a brand new truck with a rebuild engine with NO emissions that cost 20k less plus no breakdowns really do not see a down side other then not going into California

As far as cost, I didn't save money on my glider. Having a new truck with a pre-emission engine has been more than worth it.

Drove all cummins in my measly 4 years in the oil patch, N14s & ISX. Love the N14. ISX is good too, I found it was a smoother engine than the N14 with better throttle response. But the N14 is all around more fun and impressive without EGR as a bonus, fair on fuel, and the winner imo.

Spent plenty time on a drilling rig that used 12.7 series 60 for their generators, and rig floor engine. These engines were great performers and sound amazing - best sounding engine in my experience. Never broke down.

Only drove a c12 cat once. But im getting more interested in cats now. The dream is to own a 3406B. Cats seem to be the ultimate bad mofo motor for an owner op.

Certainly far from a guru here, but from what I gather any pre EGR engine is as good as the other. Probably the most important factors are owner, driver, and maintenance.

curious on the fuel mileage pre and post tune up and did you wait till after the warranty for the upgrade? That's my deal breaker between engines right now is fuel mileage between the 12.7 and 14.8. The cat is 8 grand more but I've heard horror stories about the remaned detroits and I have one now that's already needed a bull gear and is a major pita. I get great mileage but who cares if your spending your savings in down time and repairs. I've heard a properely tuned cat can get great fuel mileage too, if driven correctly, and is more reliable. Thanks
