Here's the whole story.
I was driving in a snow storm on I-80 in PA, and when I got down to 25MPH with zero visibility, I pulled into the first rest area I could find and parked nice and legally, between the lines, filled out my log book and shut my truck off, turned on the bunk heater and went to sleep. At about 3AM I was awakened by the PA State Police who said I had to move my truck. I asked why and he said the trucks were backed up all the way to the highway and it caused an accident and he needed to move the trucks off the highway. I pointed out that there were two empty places to my left and one to my right and there was plenty of room to get by. He said they couldn't get through the snow and I said neither can I! (FYI: A truck just drove through the spot beside me, so I knew it was passable!) Where do you think I'm going to go??? There's truck parking at the next exit he replied.....WTF!!! There's an accident, trucks can't get through the snow, and you want ME to get out of bed, drive in the snow, with no hours available and not enough rest? Someone's been smoking what he's been confiscating. I asked for his name, badge number and troop, which he gave me, nicely I might add. I then explained it would take about 30 minutes to heat the block. I turned on the block heater and went to sleep. 30 min later he banged on my door again. I said I'd try it...I started the truck, he walked off and I went back to sleep. He came back and I said I was defrosting the windshield (OK, that was a lie, I was stalling.). He then said "you don't have to move, we've got all the trucks off the road" NO FARKING SHEET!!! (Like I was ever going to move anyway without a tow truck!) Must have been those Maine plates that made him think I'd be OK in the storm. Screwed up my whole night for nothing....Heck, I'm getting agitated just writing about it.
Truth is I have never seen snow I couldn't get through, but that doesn't make it safe. I just don't like being awakened and asked to drive without hours by the very same people who write tickets for doing exactly that!
SO....
What would you do?
Inquiring minds want to know.

This is the first thing I saw when I left the rest area.
In the rest area:

When a LEO orders you to move your vehicle when you are out of hours, you get his name, badge, organization, etc., then saddle-up and move your vehicle. Log it like you drive it. Then, I believe you must restart your rest period from the beginning.
Half a Load Thanks this. -
