Who only works 8hrs a day?
-
The 8 hours is an example day by day....in this example, with 8 hours (combination of Lines 3 and 4) that leaves 16 hours of Line 1 and Line 2....any combination of these will qualify.
Plus, keep in mind (and use the example as an example)....that if you work less than 9 hours everyday you will never run out of hours to work...and you wouldn't need a 34 restart. -
That will never happen because of the 70 hour rule.
There are two ways to work this. A driver can work maximum hours each day, driving 11 and add a little extra for on duty. This will burn up the 70 in about 6 days, at which time the driver shuts down for a reset. Or a driver can work shorter days, as Otter said, and work every day until hometime.
Of course, a lot of that is dependent on the needs of the customer, but the driver can work the system at least a little toward whatever their preference is.Dennis the Menace Thanks this. -
Sweety....think through your first sentence and what he said (what you quoted)....."only 8 hrs sleeper time".....must be 10...8 hours, unless using split sleeper crazy logging, will get you multiple 11, 14 and 70 hour violations!

Let me add some fodder to the fire here!
While I am doing a mandatory (unplanned) 10 hour break at this POE.....this came into the discussion.
FMCSA 395.2, On Duty Time, (5) All time loading or unloading a commercial motor vehicle, supervising, or assisting in the loading or unloading, attending a commercial motor vehicle being loaded or unloaded, remaining in readiness to operate the commercial motor vehicle, or in giving or receiving receipts for shipments loaded or unloaded;
Under this rule, whenever the driver is getting unloaded or loaded, no matter how long it takes, the drivers log MUST be on Line 4.....ON DUTY NOT DRIVING.
Watch out drivers....the scales and highway boys are loading their ammo belts for $$$$$ in citations. The tools are there....they merely need to pull the trigger! -
True and correct.
If not relieved from duty while loading or unloading it counts against you.
It has always been that way. -
It actually is stronger than just being relieved from duty....you must be "off the property" or at least parked away from any "work area" of the property.
-
Don't get too serious about it, I have been at this a long time, and it has never, and I mean never been an issue logging off duty.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
When you get to a receiver, log "drop trailer" then sleeper, when empty, log "hook trailer/pre-trip" and go. If asked, say you dropped the trailer in the dock, took a nap in the bobtail staging area, then when it was empty, you grabbed it out of the dock and left.
