That is correct, the 34 hrs restart is completely optional and in many cases irrelevant. I am not trying to show off, but in 11 years I have only done a 34 hrs restart 3 times on the road. If you manage your time wisely, you can drive 365 days a year. Legally!

sorry but you are mistaken...
A 34 hour reset is NEVER required.
Once your total hours of on duty and driving are below 70 hours in the past 8 days, you may drive the available hours of the 70, so long as you also don't violate the 11 and 14 hour rules. -
i busted a restart on monday so i can take one this weekend and start fresh after the holiday
because we can only restart once a week nowMeltom Thanks this. -
It could be something as simple as burning up the last of your 70 driving and still needing to log a post trip when you park.
I've been in this situation a time or two. -
and that is perfectly legal as far as the fmcsa is concerned... a person can work as many hours as one wants to, you are not allowed to DRIVE after 70 hours.
-
That's probably what it was too...Was quit a while ago, so I don't remember.
But company requires us to Log Pre/Post-Trips. -
even though the company requires you to log pre/post trip, you are on duty not driving, and may go over the 70 hour rule, or the 14 hour rule.... you just can not drive...mattbnr Thanks this.

It amazes me the amount of drivers that don't understand the rules by which they are governed.
-
I find it more amazing that people in a position to tell the driver how to do their job have no understanding of the rules.mattbnr and Balakov100 Thank this. -
Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat....
not4hire Thanks this.
