I had to cut thru Richmond when they had that huge pileup on 70 last winter. I went up to I70 to get around the huge pileup on I74 West if Cincinnati. I should have taken US 50 over to Seymour!

I see Swift is there. I wonder what happened???? There is no such thing as too much following distance.
-
I can't help but think everybody was in the slow lane, the flatbed was stopped behind the stopped UPS truck and the Swift truck was heavy and at at least nearly full highway speed, while as close as 200 feet behind them (completely not looking forward in the moments before the crash). That's going to be a wicked dash cam clip to view out of the Swift truck and will no doubt appear in future Swift orientation safety segment meetings, as they explain why they must accept driver facing cameras and the immediate termination results of unauthorized distractions while driving.
That's my arm-chair crash analysis report.
It's sickening to have to see these types of major crashes happen at the frequency they happen. Dry road, late afternoon daylight conditions, no holiday or weekend traffic excesses, just stopped traffic [for whatever reason] and probably one driver doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing, at the worst possible time ... SMH
How the average motorist is not in abject fear while in the vicinity of a big truck is beyond me when you consider they see these crashes multiple times every year in person and in the news, knowing they must happen nationally, somewhere, every day. Why am I still out here exposing myself to this crap 10 hours a day, 7 days week, 28 days a month??? Do I have some sort of death wish or am I just an idiot with no ambition to do anything else?Last edited: Feb 13, 2017

From what they're saying on Dayton radio, a truck came barreling in and caused the major impact. From the pics that'd be Swift. There was an incident up in Richmond involving an overturned tanker so traffic was either slowed or stopped when this happened...

The crash happened, according to Simmons, after the driver crashed into three semis that had stopped for an unrelated crash near the Indiana-Ohio border.
Simmons said the driver who crashed into the lane of stopped traffic was travelling around 70 mph.
The unidentified male driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Montgomery County coroner's office. Two additional semi drivers involved in the crash were taken by CareFlight with serious injuries to Miami Valley Hospital. A fourth driver was uninjured, according to Simmons. -
Oh, Swift. *golf clap**shakes head* (I'm also not surprised to see UPS - more surprised it wasn't FedEx - in the fray.)
Glad I'm off of OTR. Sick of having a 97% chance of dying everyday because of some of these yahoos. -
SESteve83, LoneCowboy, SidewaysBentHalo and 1 other person Thank this.

I don't see how there's not at least 2 dead occupants.
DoubleO7 Thanks this. -

I wonder if the kingpin broke on the flatbed, or maybe the entire 5th wheel was ripped from the frame???
Lepton1 Thanks this.
