Trooper said no indication of stopping. So that answeres the question. He hit them at full #### speed.
And the other two drivers had serious injuries. Not surprising.
This is just sickining.

Man, that's one of my big fears. I always get nervous coming to a stop on a highway because you never know if the truck behind you is paying attention. Nothing you can do but identify the situation asap and hit the 4 ways early.
Holy crap, that flatbed is destroyed. Prayers to all involved.Last edited: Feb 13, 2017

Just speculation but it looks like it distributed the energy wide enough that nothing came through, it did its job the best it could. Obviously it broke, but just what I see. -
I watched the news cast and it turns out the Swift driver seems to be the one who DOA so at least he's not having to live in that personal hell. And yes, since the headache rack seems to have made a solid panel to push the entire cab and floorboard [intact mostly] forward and off the frame mounts and out over and ahead of the engine compartment, it seems it may have been very helpful for the flatbed driver (if I'm hearing the news story right and the flatbed survivor survived)

Yeah, just read that. Makes me sick. I travel that road a lot. Everybody stay safe out there.
Mike2633, crb and FerrissWheel Thank this. -
If the Swift driver would have survived, I'd have been happy to visit him in the hospital and finished him off. 6.5 hours and counting sitting in the middle of the highway with no end in sight. And amateur hour by the Ohio DOT! They knew the cause of this crash hours ago and have done next to nothing after all this time, including getting the traffic behind me that has easy access to a u-turn median turned around. If I could back up about 120 feet I could flip and go back east. They still haven't removed a single truck from this crash and I'm probably gonna be sitting here til the sun comes up. The victims are long gone, the cause is obvious, get a lane cleared and get it moving!
LoneCowboy and FerrissWheel Thank this. -

Don't get in a hurry if your headed eastbound.......FerrissWheel Thanks this. -
I feel your pain, man. A few years ago I sat for almost 5 hours because of a jackknife. When they finally opened the road, which had been getting snow on it with no traffic all that time, everyone took off like it was a Nascar race. It didn't take 10 miles for another truck to slide off and hit an overpass, but luckily I made it past that one before they closed the road yet again.
Mike2633, Lepton1, FerrissWheel and 1 other person Thank this.
