As far as the negative impact this has on my life, it's way (WAY) down the list. I refuse to get all tight-cheeked about this or any other "safety blitz". Those who overreact are generally the ones with good reason to.
Chill. Be polite and professional. This too shall pass.

police asking to check your cell phone history during the road check, i don't care who you are, but that is just plain old funny
rofl.
Last year i got pulled into 2 differant states during the road check, not once was i asked to hand my cell phone over or to show the calls/ txt history. Last week got pulled into the check station so. of Vegas, and the office didn't ask for my cell phone either.
If this is turw, what state and office( do you have his name) does this?
More coffee counter bs.
In the event of a acciedent, that is the only time i know they ask to see your phone, and or records from the phone company, in the course of the investagation. -
Its like CHRISTMAS rolls around once a year at the same time , plenty of notice. Some years you do good
others you get something you do not want
.

In Iowa they started trying to use driver frequent fueler cards to verify log books. So Pilot made theirs secure against anyone but the authorized driver. I've heard of the phone thing also, but both of these have more to do with overzealous officers than a systematic approach to check up on drivers, at least going by the stories I've heard.
Just got a message from the company maintenance department. It pretty much sums up what to watch. Lights, tires, and brakes are the big issues.Svoray Thanks this. -
How bad is it ??
The banning scale is writing tickets for not wearing your helmet !!!!!
REDD, GuysLady, canuck in da truck and 2 others Thank this. -
I once got written up for forgetting to wear my "muck boots". It's considered proper safety equipment when wading through all the BS in the scalehouse, you know.
-
Don't forget if you have an animal in the truck with you they are also required to be fully equipped with a helmet as well.
GuysLady Thanks this. -
Now let me explain why I said I am sure you haven't seen anything quite like it before. Around 10ish tonight you will start to see anywhere from 3 to 15 CMV inspectors in the scales. The way they do it here in Texas (last year anyway) is the 512 on I 20 would have 2 lanes 1 going over the scales 1 not. 1 trooper at each line looking at paper.. They then have 5 set up with those big spot lights over to the side.. When he gets done with just hope you aren't next in line. Then on Thursday at midnight it all vanishes just as fast as they came and won't be seen until next year (except for the occasional spot check) They are super strict during this 72 hour extravaganza as it is also about statistics.
Now to why I think it is about being seen.. If it is about safety why aren't they working 24/7. I think they should be striving to keep the roads as safe as possible, you can't do that in 1 week out of the year.
Any way good luck... and btw follow the scale masters instructions during this 72 hour check. Every state trooper will believe his directions are the gospel.. Had a driver get a ticket in MS last year for going through the wrong line in.. Failure to obey traffic control device.. Not sure if the guy was having a bad day or what.. -
What a load of bull excrement.
For the OP, as far as the annual road check goes, it's no big deal. It's no different than being inspected at any other time, with the exception that they tend to have increased manpower at scales and/or they set up roadside inspections in unusual or infrequently used places. I've been through it every year, and every year I get my stickers (so long as they don't run out... but that's a different rant). -
If anyone thinks this is gonna be "just another blitz" is just crazy!! With that bus crash in Richmond,VA last week and all the egg on Ray LaHood and FMCSA'S face for letting the paperwork to shut that company down just sit and get lost in the shuffle, I honestly believe they are out to prove a point this year!! But hey, what do I know, I always take this time of year off and am at the house now having a cold one!!!
