I agree completely...There are far too many variables to just stick to some "formula" that some guy taught you because he "thinks" it right!
Many factors come into play when choosing the gear in which to descend a hill.

Factors such as the weight you are pulling (or that's pushing you as the case may be) the % of the grade, You may have pulled a ten mile 5% grade and be descending a 4 mile 8% grade as is many times the case...If that is the case then you will find that the gear you've selected based on the neat little "formula" that you were taught will have you in a brake smokin' panic situation about half way down.

And conditions may change as you go down the hill. It'd be much better if these "schools" taught how to downshift on a hill and why you might have to. As it is, you get people taught that you should never do it and are left to fend for themselves if ever faced with a situation where they have to do it.

First off, how is what you did even close to 'living on the edge'? you were hired in 5 minutes, and tossed on your AZ faster than that. You don't care about why you don't know you were fired? Don't care about driving for a company and following their policy? Thats telling me, and the rest of us, you dont care about staying in control......being safe. thats telling me you could care less about the safety of anybody on the road. I drive on that road. My folks drive on that road. My brother and sister drive on that road. Everyone else's family drives on that road. You don't have the right to be careless. You yourself said you dont care much......so that is careless.

How bad a driver you must be if the 'worst' company to work for fired you.........maybe you will be better off delivering those pizza's i was talking about.........................................................................................but on a BIKE.

You can make more money and have a better life delivering pizzas on a bike than working for swift anyway!

That's how they showed us, drop to 900, clutch in, raise rpms to 1600, then double down!...It's a very smooth shift and leaves you at a much slower speed PLUS allows time if you miss the gear(hopefully you don't miss it of course)...It seems many say it's a no-no and just hang on and hope for the best...Or burn up your brakes...
