To Xsd, I started over with SWIFT in 2003 and after the first month was over they put me with a woman as a co driver, yes I did have a girl friend back at home. But my co driver was new to the industry and with my back ground SWIFT said it would be helpful. I had trucks in the past well over 72 mph, but with her teamed up with me that truck could not go fast enough!. She was good looking and drove well, but she had to stop at every shopping center in almost every state. Just saying SWIFT does not pay well at the start, and if some how you end up on a shopping spree throughout the 48 US states I would have to say you go off easy. So try to keep your record clean and you should do fine.:biggrin_25515:

what the heck do you need the clutch for except to start or stop, if you gotta use the clutch to shift, then you must still be a rookie.

What is even more interesting is when the qualcomm starts to shreik when you have exceeded the company limit.

I did it a total of 2 times with Western Express, there after it wasnt a problem. The first time it was a wtf! The second was the resolve not to let it happen anymore.

There are rolling hills in Tennessee that are very easy to let the truck get over speed. As many have said before, just dont stay on the throttle on the hills.

I think it was not following company policy is what got this guy fired. I really don't see how following policy if it doesn't kill anyone is stupid.

BTW, I'm not even a rookie yet. I'm still in school. Just to put that out there.

No, unless a delay is programmed into the engine brake application - they will rapidly drag down your engine RPM's and you may miss the gear.

As it is, you may have to rev the engine to redline to downshift on downhill acceleration - and if those RPM's are governed electronically - it may be impossible to catch that lower gear if you miss it the first time.

Remember that most members on here are vet's, and O/O's with their own trucks and configurations - what works for them will not necessarily work on your truck since most company trucks are neutered down for fuel use.

Again, I would say as a rookie - take hills and mountains slow - very slow ... and don't worry about cowboys in the left lane passing you ...

first off, why are you trying to shift downhill. unless you've got experience doing it, you're going to screw yourself. and 2nd...trucks are governed at 62, yes to help out fuel....but it is also an insurance thing. Before swift became self-insured.

but i'll agree....dont worry about anybody else. there is only one person you have to worry about, and thats YOU. You start worrying about other drivers, you're going to forget to drive your own truck.
