Yup, truck in the right gear for the down grade, jakes cracking, use the brakes to bring your speed down a little. The right gear is the key for downgrades.

I find the best way to avoid overspeed is to drive for a company that caps their trucks at 80. Yes, I cheat.

Try slowing down with no Jakes. Our company uses auto shift (yes) So I will put the truck in low gear, which acts the same..

You would use the Engine brake in a rain storm. Not me

I wouldn't use the jake when it was raining, just drop the truck in a lower gear to keep things under control.

I hear ya, but thats my point under control I prob was not braking a speed limit on the HW, but with QC and eveyone above the law under control may not fly well with what the Company might say, But there right I just didnt think a one time thing and no warning would have them react like that.
But again I think it was more of the truck being fixed outside of a term , No DM and them not wanting me to find me a new truck. Its all good it a learned lesson on how tight they want things.

Great post. Nice to see a post where someone who doesn't work for Swift takes the time to actually form a valid input on the topic instead of outright bashing.

unless the road is oily-- or it is freezing rain--there is no problem using jakes in the rain---maybe if you are running on slicks it might not be good---but normally your traction isnt reduced enough to get you sliding
